#diARyofaGoOgleDad- #5 (Government!)

Happy New Year!
It has been ages since my last Google dad post, the Emperor has since turned One year and seven months (19months).
First let me start with the sub heading of this post 'Government'.. It might interest you to know that is the first word that came to mind this morning at about 3am when I woke up, not because of the ridiculous stories we have had to deal with recently like Dasukigate, missing budgets and yam and goat memes on Nigerian social media but because it dawned on me that my son is the commander in chief of the household.

As I write this, it is just gone past 4am and sleep is history because a certain Emperor decided there will be no sleep for we the masses. Gov't because this morning I asked myself why we didn't just name Nigel Government instead considering we are obviously his citizens constantly at his mercy:) and we surely would not be the first if we did.
I have Learned to insulate myself emotionally from his tantrums my wife on the other hand ermmmm lets just skip that part..Between diARyofaGoOgleDad- #4 and this one a lot has happened. First the Emperor has had 4 experiences with air flight cabin pressure initially freaking out at the discomfort of popping eardrums. Secondly he has become more audible with words like 'I love you', 'How are you' (which by the way is what he calls his mum and I respectively for weird reasons I cannot understand), also words like 'Jeje O' and my least favorite 'I dunnor O ( I don't know. Which by the way he learned from his last nanny)'. Ah yes! I have also lost count with the number of rhymes he can sing on key by the way.. Let's just say he is one very smart young man. Keep in mind that for personal reasons we refused to put him in a commercial crèche. We figured it would be better to expose him  to our own brand of guidance first, but between his daily routine and Sunday school lets just say we may have created a nursery school singing rockstar. :)

Finally in the aftermath of the recent batches of vaccinations a while back he caught a stomach bug, perhaps as a result of the continuos teething. Initially we thought it would pass, but 6days no improvement : constant stooling, sore bums resulting from consistent wiping down and vomiting.. Within a few days the emperor had dropped to 10kg. He was admitted shortly after that to avoid total dehydration even though we had done our best to keep him hydrated despite the loss of appetite. I would later read online (Google dad get it?) that this stomach bug sometimes could linger for up to 20 days.. After some slight drama at the hospital we left headed straight to our Indian pediatrician who prescribed proper drugs and ointments for the sore bum..
My biggest lesson from the last few months have been this:

1. Be very observant as a new parent, don't ignore any signs and research (Google) unusual symptoms and developments you never know you just might save your child's life

2. Never discredit the fact that God's protection makes all the difference because no matter how hard you try, you cannot see every minute of your child's life so just do your best and trust God to protect your child.

3. It is really hard to control the influence of a good nanny on a child.

NiKKiLaOYE oN hOLyHoLLA Ep.#92- 19th JuLy 2015

This week we had the rare privilege to chat with the beautiful singer and dancer- NikkiLaoye. This very sweet and fun lady shared insights about her life, music, childhood, performing with artistes she idolized growing up(listen to find out which) and her Angel4life foundation. One of the things that really struck me was her out of the 'gospel genre' box approach to spreading the gospel.

There is absolutely no doubt that we live in perilous times where just as scriptures foretold, our creed is increasing becoming un-cool thanks in part to the passive approach to spreading the gospel by the christian community. Over decades we may have succeeded in alienating potential believers with our tactless and judgmental approach to spreading the gospel. Even the bibles states that he that winneth souls is wise meaning that a great part of spreading the gospel requires tact. I hope you download and enjoy this engaging interview. Also please leave a comment below after listening.

#doiT: bE tHe aRchitEct oF yOur oWn OppORtuNitieS.

A few days ago I read a piece on Anderson Cooper's rise to fame, and I found the revelations in there particularly inspiring. In it he talked about how not having a 'Plan B' was his secret to media success. When nobody would give him a chance at being a correspondent, he borrowed a home camcorder from a friend and with the little he had he embarked on trips to cover troubled developing countries like Somalia only to sell his stories to media outfits in the U.S. He would later get hired as an Intl. correspondent by 'Channel One' as a result of his efforts (Lesson: Sometimes getting people to trust you requires you changing their perception of you. Doing that requires drastic efforts on your part). This all or nothing approach to life especially when caught between a rock and hard place may be counter intuitive for some but in my opinion the most ingenious and creative solutions to challenges have been produced by men who have been backed into a corner without a backup plan.

The world is saturated with people who often let their degrees, environment or circumstances dictate who they become. In an increasingly difficult world where even having a PHD doesn't guarantee a job, only a few wake up to the realization that you are a sum of the choices you make and that we as individuals have to create our own opportunities in life. There will always be more than one way into a market.
what is it you want so bad that the so called professionals of your industry won't let you in on? or what is that thing you dream about so much that the nay sayers have given you absolutely no chance of attaining? I say we (Yeah I said we, 'cos just like you I'm trying to get up that ladder)use their pessimism as fuel to attain the unattainable. People can only make you feel bad about yourself, your ideas or convictions if you let them.

So share less with perssimists and be the architect of your opportunities. Because humans are mostly perception driven most will only believe when you have attained that goal/dream.

diMeji IsRaEL, NoT yOuR aVeRage MaEsTRo!

yesterday on the show, we had a very interesting interview with this very little known but accomplished Musician Dimeji Israel. An architect and a Recording Arts Degree Holder from the prestigious SAE Institute, Dimeji Israel has done it all. Even though he has worked with some of the world's best gospel and secular artistes like Helen Baylor, Keith Staten, Marvin Sapp among others, he shies away from mentioning them. He believes strongly that his credibility shouldnt depend on people he has had a history with. Enjoy this interview.

That Cobhams Asuquo is a phenomenal individual is not in doubt. I had the unique privilege to setup an interview with Cobhams on our show holyholla on Rhythm FM93.7 It was indeed an insightful interview where he talked about his wife, his 2 year old son, the lessons he learned from his time at QuestionMark records way back and how he got to be penned down to perform at this years World Economic Summit, 2014 in Davos, Switzerland. This interview exposes a different side of Cobhams the world is yet to see. Find below an audio podcast of our interview with cobhams.
